If you have been living with the weight of constant worry, restless nights, or a sense of dread that follows you through your day, you are not alone, and you have not done anything wrong. Anxiety is one of the most common and most treatable mental health conditions in the country, yet so many people carry it silently for years, unsure where to turn or whether help is even possible for them.
At Cottonwood Psychiatry, we believe that getting the right support should feel like a relief, not another source of stress. Dr. McGuire is here to listen without judgment, understand your unique experience, and work alongside you to find a path forward that actually fits your life.
About Iowa
Known for its strong agricultural heritage and tight-knit communities, Iowa is home to approximately 3.2 million residents who take great pride in their work ethic and neighborly values.
Yet beneath the calm exterior of everyday Midwestern life, mental health challenges are a quiet but significant reality for many Iowans. According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, anxiety disorders affect hundreds of thousands of adults across the state each year, and many go without proper treatment due to the stigma surrounding mental health or limited access to specialized psychiatric care in rural communities.
Whether you live in a bustling urban center or a small farming town, Dr. McGuire is committed to making high-quality anxiety treatment accessible.
What is Anxiety Treatment?
Anxiety is one of the most common mental health conditions in the United States, yet it is also one of the most treatable. Anxiety treatment refers to a range of evidence-based interventions designed to reduce the frequency and intensity of anxiety symptoms, improve daily functioning, and help individuals regain a sense of calm and control over their lives.
At Cottonwood Psychiatry, our approach to anxiety treatment is personalized and comprehensive. During your consultation, Dr. McGuire conducts thorough evaluations to build a treatment plan tailored specifically to your symptoms, history, and goals.
Who is a Candidate for Anxiety Treatment?
Anxiety is not simply feeling stressed about an upcoming deadline or a difficult conversation. It is a persistent, often disruptive condition that can interfere with work, relationships, sleep, and overall quality of life. You may be a candidate for anxiety treatment at Cottonwood Psychiatry if you regularly experience any of the following:
- Excessive or uncontrollable worry that is difficult to turn off, even when there is no clear reason for concern
- Physical symptoms such as a racing heart, chest tightness, shortness of breath, dizziness, muscle tension, or frequent headaches
- Difficulty sleeping due to anxious thoughts or an inability to “shut off” your mind at night
- Avoidance of social situations, public spaces, or activities you once enjoyed because of fear or dread
- Sudden and intense episodes of fear or panic that feel overwhelming or unmanageable
- Anxiety related to a specific trigger, such as driving, health concerns, or public speaking, that significantly limits daily functioning
If you are unsure whether your symptoms rise to the level of an anxiety disorder, we encourage you to schedule an evaluation. Dr. McGuire will listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, and help you understand what you are experiencing, with no judgment and no pressure.
